It's not Haiku, but here's my IHOP story. Circa 1972 I walked into an Armed Robbery in progress at the Brookline location.

At approx. 9:30 PM (July?) I and my Main squeeze at the time walked in the door. She saw what was going on before I did and wanted to leave, I had a case of the munchies and the associated mental condition that goes with it. Yup I was "one toke over the line", so when I saw what was going on as we attempted to leave the “lookout” came in and directed us at gunpoint to the booths on the right near the bathroom where they had the waitresses and the cooks. There were three Perps total Lookout, #1 who was with the manager in the office emptying the safe and #2 who was going from table to table in the main dining room demanding that people put all their money in a large paper bag. He was holding a Sawed off double barrel shotgun and shouting “put your money watches wallets rings put it all in the bag if I don't get it you’ll get it", or words to that effect. They didn't demand money from us or the waitresses and cooks. This is one of several heists this team pulled all at IHOPS in the greater Boston area. They were captured about a month or two later while attempting to rob the IHOP on Soldiers Field Road. The cops by this time were staking out IHOP's.

Wow. That's like something out of Pulp Fiction. Pumpkin and Honey Bunny. Funny that they didn't change the restaurant, so all the police had to do was stake out IHOPs. Duh.

I wonder about your state of mind: did you remain one toke over and so never get frightened, or did you immediately sober up from adrenaline?

One thing is for sure I don't think any of them ever made potato salad for the Mensa Picnic.

As soon as I became situationaly aware I automatically kicked into a mode that was consistent with my training and experience as a Police Officer in Montgomery County Maryland (Silver Spring Station).

Send me your email address I've got something I want to show you..No nothing like that:-)
