What is a Billion Dollars?
I got an email about government spending (thanks Nancy!)-- about how lightly we toss around the word "billion." It's a number so big that we can't really envision it, so it becomes unreal- as if we're dealing with Monopoly money. So for example -- I read that in 2006 we were spending two billion a week in Iraq (I couldn't find current number readily.. so sue me.) Two billion a week at one point. That meant that by Thursday morning we had spent a billion. What would that look like?

In one of his posts, he says of Peggy Noonan, "Peggy is doing the work of her career and must be considered an early favorite for next cycle's Pulitzer for commentary." He recommended this piece: click here. I've always had a hard time listening to Peggy (she's so dramatic) but it is compelling writing. This one about Scott McClellan's book is interesting, too: click here.
